The Licensed Music in Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 3 and 4 doesn't Matter.

X-treme sports games and licensed music: a pair as iconic as the tracks in Grand Theft Auto, FIFA, and Forza Horizon. The Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1+2 release contains 22 of the 25 tracks from the original two games’ US release and 37 additional tracks! Rocking out to “Superman” while hitting that gnarly 900 on Downhill Jam never felt nor looked so good. With the recent news of Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 3+4 only containing 10 of the original 47¹ tracks, there’s some outrage surrounding the missing tracks². It doesn’t matter if your favorite track isn’t in THPS 3+4. You have Spotify.

I know it’s inconvenient

to boot up a brand new game where there was tons of money tossed into licensed music you don’t know. It doesn’t matter. You have Spotify.

It’s really hard to

step outside your comfort zone with fresh music. Why listen to something new when “Be Good Johnny” by Men at Work still sounds so nice? Why try out 100gecs’ “Hollywood Baby” when you could just play Madonna’s “Material Girl”? You don’t have to! You have Spotify.

I really wanted

to listen to my favorite licensed tracks from the original releases while still playing the new game. You can. You don’t even need a soundbar. You need a headset and a way to play the game. You can mix the audio any way you’d like. You have Spotify.

I wish there were

more tracks I was familiar with added to THPS3+4 remake. You can listen to the music you want the way you want. You have Spotify.

But I actually

don’t have Spotify. This is a non-issue. You have Apple Music. You have Amazon Music. You have Napster. You have iheartradio. You have YouTube. You have free Spotify. You have piracy.

I want to play the

original version of Tony Hawk Pro Skater 4 how I remember it. You can. You have emulation.

1. There are 20 tracks for THPS3 and 37 tracks for THPS 4. THPS4’s tracks a versions and I’m not including the Polish only tracks featured in Poland’s release.

2. There’s actually much less outrage than understanding. The bulk of the outrage is around changing the mission structure of THPS 4.
